In Nokia Lumia 520 volume keys are on the right side of the mobile phone, they are used to control the volume like while listening to the music or during a phone call. Volume keys like power buttons are soldered on the motherboard and can easily be damaged if the user puts too much pressure on them.
If that happens sometimes the prints on which the volume keys are soldered on also get damaged. I have marked all the Nokia Lumia 520 volume keys ways in the diagram below. Just make the jumper from which the prints are damaged to the points marked in the diagram and you will be good to go.

The main Volume Up key point marked with the red line connects to R4402, R4405 and C4400, the black marked points are ground. Volume Down key’s red marked point connects to R4403, R4406 and R4403, the black marked points are ground.
